"This second Norton Critical Edition of The Waste Land and Other Poems features T.S. Eliot's modernist masterpiece, alongside his defining earlier collections. Heavy with contemporary allusions and searing imagery, Eliot's five-part poem The Waste Land (1922) has equally impressed and befuddled scholars. His earlier works Prufrock and Other Observations (1917) and Poems (1920) speak to his refinement as an artist and provide context to The Waste Land's reception. The background material in this edition explains the various sources and ideas Eliot referenced in his poetry, most heavily featuring sources for The Waste Land. The "Criticism" section offers a plethora of reviews and essays that depicts the controversy surrounding Eliot as a writer during the early parts of his career, in addition to essays exploring various themes represented in his poetry. A chronology and selected bibliography are also included"--
