Milton the Dramatist (Medieval & Renaissance Literary Studies)

Combining author-contextual criticism, historicized reader-response theory and new historicism, Burbery (English, Marshall U.) analyzes Milton's dramatic achievements, answering common objections to the claim that Milton was a dramatist and finding new evidence in recent biographical material that Milton very likely viewed public theater. Burbery's survey of the extensive stage history of Samson argues strongly for its theatrical viability. Annotation 2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
