First published in 1972, this is the first of a four-volume series on the labor battles of the Teamsters Local 574 in Minnesota in the 1930s by Farrell Dobbs, a key figure in the events described and later a central leader of the Socialist Workers Party. The focus of the narrative in this volume is on the victorious Minneapolis General Strike of 1934, a catalyst in the historic rise of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO), and on the lessons of the strike for labor and political organizing.
