A sweeping historical novel about a young woman who defies tradition to chase her art, her freedom, and a love that could change her life. By day she is a dutiful wife. By night she risks everything to carve the life she truly desires. At the turn of the twentieth century on the crowded streets of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Hannah dreams of becoming a woodcarver. But the Brooklyn workshops where magical carousel horses are created belong to men. Women are not allowed to carve there, no matter how talented they might be. Determined to prove herself, Hannah secretly works at night in a hidden workshop, carving the beauty she longs to create. Trapped in an unhappy marriage and bound by the expectations of family and tradition, she dreams of a life where she can finally live and create openly. Then she meets a man who offers her a dangerous chance at freedom. When he is forced to flee, Hannah makes the boldest decision of her lifetime. She sets out alone to find him, traveling from New York to Chicago to Hollywood in search of the man who believed in her talent and the future she refuses to abandon. The Woodcarver’s Secret is a powerful historical journey of courage, artistic passion, and a young woman determined to carve her own destiny. Perfect for readers who enjoy rich historical fiction about women breaking barriers and pursuing their dreams, in the spirit of bestselling authors Stacey Lee, Elizabeth Wein, and Jennifer Donnelly. ___________________________________________________________________Praise for The Woodcarver’s Secret:? ? ? ? ?
