Miami Midnight (Pete Fernandez)

One last case becomes a Miami PI’s final reckoning with his own dangerous past in a stunning thriller by the award-winning author of Secret Identity. After two bullets nearly kill PI Pete Fernandez, he withdraws from the game. He’s the owner of a Miami bookstore. He’s newly sober. And his relationship with his partner, Kathy, is at a turning point. Pete is rebuilding his life in peace. If not for one last case he can’t refuse. Aging Cuban gangster Alvaro Mujica wants Pete to find his son’s killer and track down his wily daughter-in-law, who vanished with a valuable painting. Simple. Except what the investigation yields is far from it. It’s a killer connection to a devastating secret from Pete’s past: the truth behind his mother’s death and the lie he’s been fed all his life. Pulled into Miami’s darkest corners, Pete is on a collision course with organized crime, drug cartels, and a mystery assassin back from the shadows. But Pete’s most dangerous enemies could be his own personal demons. If his luck runs out, they could get the best of him. Revised edition: This edition of Miami Midnight includes editorial revisions.
