The author describes four case studies of environmental change that occurred in southwest Australia since European settlement in the late 1820s that affected rivers, forests, and coastal plains, in addition to the historical context of these changes and different perceptions of the changed environment and society. He addresses various relevant topics: the water quality in the coastal plain between Bunbury and Busselton and the Donnelly and Vasse Rivers; land repair after the clearing of much of the land in the region; the effects of rural and urban salinity in Kataning and Wagin; and the effects of settlement on the forests.
