Uwe Wittwer

This book shows some of Uwe Wittwers most impressive works, offering an immersive experience of his ongoing creative journey. Through watercolour and oil alike, Wittwer creates a delicate interplay between real and imagined, past and present, allowing readers to question authenticity and the shifting nature of memory.

The lavishly illustrated volume invites readers into Wittwers world, where his technique beautifully complements his themes of visual truth and cultural reflection. While many artists use watercolour as a preparatory tool, Wittwer elevates it to stand on par with his oil paintings. References from art history, personal and familial topics, cinematic influences, colonial themes, and the impact of war characterise Wittwers decades-spanning work. His compositions often symbolise the erasure and loss caused by war, a highly topical subject.
